It is possible for a metal object to activate a Computer Collar®. The explanation of why this phenomena can occur is very technical and deals with the laws of physics. The signal field that is created from an Invisible Fence transmitter is an Electro-magnetic field. The magnetic field radiates outward from the loop wire in a cylindrical motion. The magnetic field will continue to move cylindrically away from the wire and will go on to infinity. The closer you are to the loop wire the more intense the magnetic field. As you move farther away from the loop wire the intensity of the magnetic field decreases. Our Computer Collar is designed to activate when it sees a specific signal (intensity of magnetic field). An Invisible Fence signal field is usually set between 6 and 10 feet from the loop wire. This means that the Computer Collar will activate at a set distance from the loop wire. As you move farther away from the loop wire the Computer Collar does not activate because the signal or magnetic field is not the proper intensity. Although the magnetic field is weaker as it moves further from the loop wire, because it is magnetic, it is also attracted to metal objects. As the magnetic field is drawn to a metal object such as a bumper on a car it can concentrate and become strong enough to activate a Computer Collar. Usually the concentrated magnetic field is not strong enough to activate a Computer Collar more than a couple of inches away from the metal object.
